Webber protects vulnerable families in bipartisan vote to preserve state’s sex offender registry

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Michael Webber, R-Rochester Hills, on Tuesday issued the following statement after the Senate passed bipartisan legislation to preserve the state’s Sex Offender Registration Act and protect residents against a court order that would have removed more than 30,000 people from Michigan’s sex offender registry this summer:

“We have a moral obligation as legislators to protect those we serve, especially the most vulnerable. For more than 30 years, the sex offender registry has played a critical role in keeping Michigan families safe.

“This bipartisan legislation would ensure we are following the law while also protecting public safety. I will always work with anyone to do what’s right to build up stronger families and stronger communities throughout our state.”
