Sen. Webber: Parents have a right to know what is being taught inside the classroom.
Senator Michael Webber introduced a bill to clarify who and what is covered under Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act, because parents have a right to know what is being taught inside the classroom. And the public deserves to know that education dollars are being spent on just that – education – and not being wasted on legal fees to fight parents.
In February, an appeals panel upheld an Oakland County Circuit Court ruling that found a union member public school teacher’s class curriculum was NOT subject to FOIA and, therefore, was not obligated to provide materials to parents for review. We must support parents and provide them with greater awareness and accountability when it comes to their children’s education.
